Moscow, 6 October 2005. According to preliminary data, in the first nine months of 2005, the power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" increased generation of electricity year-on-year by 1.7% to 478.1 billion kWh from 469.8 billion kWh. Of this amount, the thermal power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" generated 381.4 billion kWh, up 3.1% on the same period last year, whereas the hydropower plants produced 96.7 billion kWh, down 3.3% in year-on-year terms.
The increased output of electricity by RAO UES power plants made it possible to meet the growing electricity consumption in the country, which rose to 666.8 billion kWh in January-September 2005, up 1.7% from 655.6 billion kW on the same period last year.
In September 2005, the Holding Company's power plants generated 48.9 billion kWh of electricity, which represents an increase of 2.7% compared to September last year. The thermal power plants generated 38.4 billion kWh of electricity, while the hydropower plants produced 10.5 billion kWh.
