RAO UES CEO Anatoly Chubais sends letter to Acting President of Georgia Nino Burdzhanadze

Moscow. 24 November 2003. The Chairman of the Management Board of RAO "UES of Russia" Anatoly Chubais has sent the following letter to the Acting President of Georgia Nino Burdzhanadze:

"On behalf of the Company headed by me, and on my own behalf, may I express our esteem to you and the hope that the political situation in the Republic of Georgia will soon stabilize.

In its turn, RAO "UES of Russia" will use its best efforts to ensure stable operation of all electricity facilities in Georgia owned by our Company, as well as reliable and uninterrupted supply of electricity to consumers in the Republic.

As you are aware, at the suggestion of Tbilisi Electricity Distribution Company "Telasi", which is part of RAO "UES of Russia", the National Energy Regulatory Commission of Georgia has postponed the implementation of the new tariff system, which envisages an increase in the electricity tariffs for households in Tbilisi, from 1 September to 1 December this year. Today, Telasi has once again requested Georgia's energy regulators to extend the term of the current electricity tariffs. We believe that this step demonstrates the firm commitment of the Russian electricity company to act as a honest business partner and serves as evidence of the friendly feelings we have toward the people of Georgia.

We hope for close and constructive cooperation with Georgia's authorities to ensure stable operation of the energy system in the Republic."
