RUSAL, one of the world’s leading aluminium producers, today announced that its Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Smelter (RUSAL Krasnoyarsk) has received the ISO 14001 environmental management system certification.
Commenting on the certification, Valeri Matvienko, Director of Aluminium Division said: “This is a proud achievement for Krasnoyarsk smelter which has worked diligently to meet all the necessary environmental management criteria. RUSAL is committed to reducing the impact of its operations on the environment and the ISO 14001 certification is a key element of our smelter modernization programmes.”
RUSAL began introducing the ISO 14001 international certification standards in November 2000, soon after the group was created. Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Smelter is the sixth RUSAL plant to receive the ISO 14001 certificate. To date, RUSAL’s ROSTAR beverage can plant, Sayanogorsk Aluminium Smelter, RUSAL SAYANAL, Samara Metallurgical Plant, Dmitrov Metallurgical Plant all have ISO 14001 environmental certification. The remaining RUSAL plants are in the process of being ISO 14001 certified.
The certificate is an internationally recognized standard, confirming that the plant is capable of gradual improvement in its environmental impacts. Det Norske Veritas (DNV) of Norway, an independent registrar organization, carried out the assessments.
