Oil Company "LUKOIL"

October 15, 1998

LUKOIL participates in a joint project with Russian automobile magazine Za Rulem and Ford Corp. of USA

October 15, 1998 - A car run conducted within the framework of the "One-Storeyed America, 60 years after" project was launched in New York, N.Y. The project supported by LUKOIL is carried out by Za rulem, a major Russian automobile magazine, and Ford Corp., one of the leaders of US automobile industry.

The aim of the project is to repeat the route of the Russian writers Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov, which they passed in 1935 through the United States of America using the Ford model car and which was described in their book «Single-storeyed America».

That’s why, reporters of the magazine "Za Rulyom", which now celebrates its 70th anniversary, will cower the route New York - Buffalo - Detroit - Cleveland - Chicago - Kansas-City - Denver - Las-Vegas - Los-Angeles - San-Francisco on the Ford model cars, Expedition and Lincoln Town Car, put by Ford Corp. on their disposal. After finishing the run, a set of articles will be published, in which the journalists will give a detailed description of today’s life of motor-car America.

Circulation of the magazine "Za Rulyom" is certified by the largest international audit company, Coopers & Lybrand, and estimates 500,000 copies.

The first Ford model car appeared in Russia in 1907. Now this trade-mark is very popular due to reliability, developed service and reasonable prices.

LUKOIL has become the first Russian oil company which in 1997 began to build its own gasoline filling stations in the USA. Today there are six stations in Colorado, Virginia, Mane, and some other states. These stations are working on principle of «one-stop-shopping» and have been built on parkings, which belong to some large supermarkets. The company has also established strategic partnership relations with U.S. oil companies, Atlantic Richfield Company and Conoco Inc. LUKOIL’s American depository receipts are in use on the OTC market.

The participants of the project believe that its promotion will help to move their brands to Russian and American markets, and also to develop cooperation among Russian and American companies.
